How to send a TradingView alert to Tradovate

Short answer

Connect your Tradovate account to Shifu by approving it on Tradovate’s own sign-in page, create a bot, and paste the bot’s private webhook link and a ready-made JSON message into a TradingView alert set to fire once per bar close. Send a test, then switch on live routing. From then on each alert places the matching order in your Tradovate account, with any take-profit and stop resting at the broker.

  1. Connect the Tradovate account

    Dashboard → Accounts → Connect account → Tradovate. You approve Shifu on Tradovate’s own site, so your Tradovate password is never typed into Shifu. Pick Simulated or Live; most prop-firm accounts, funded ones included, run on Simulated.

  2. Create a bot

    Dashboard → Bots → New bot. Give it a name, a default ticker such as MNQ1! or MES1!, a default size, and how each trade is sized (from the alert, or a fixed count). Saving shows your private link and a key exactly once — copy it then.

  3. Point the bot at the account

    Open the bot → Account routing and switch the Tradovate account on. Per account you choose × alert, a multiplier of the base size, or — when the bot uses a fixed size rather than the alert’s — Contracts, an exact count.

  4. Create the TradingView alert

    On the bot’s Setup tab, copy the link and a ready-made message. On your chart press Alt+A, set the condition to your strategy or indicator, open Notifications, tick Webhook URL and paste the whole link (it ends in your key), paste the message into the Message box, set the trigger to “Once Per Bar Close”, and click Create. If your script builds its own alert text, leave the Message box empty and use “Any alert() function call”.

  5. Test, then go live

    Send a test signal from the Setup tab and watch it land under Alerts. When you are ready for real orders, turn on Live routing on the account. Until then, alerts are received and logged but no order reaches Tradovate.

{
  "action": "buy",
  "symbol": "MNQ1!",
  "quantity": 1,
  "time": "{{timenow}}"
}

Add take_profit and stop_loss prices to that message and both legs rest at Tradovate the instant the entry fills, one cancelling the other. Add trail_distance and the stop becomes a native trailing stop; add trail_trigger and it starts following only after price has moved your way — the broker’s own trailing stop, so it keeps running with your computer off.

  • Market, limit, stop and stop-limit entries; a take-profit and stop bracket resting at the broker; a trailing stop with an arm-after trigger.
  • A new entry replaces the old position: working legs on that contract are cancelled and the position is flattened before the new entry goes in.
  • Balance and open positions sync back into Shifu, and every fill lands in the journal — including an exit you made by hand in Tradovate on a position Shifu opened.
  • reverse alerts are refused rather than half-executed: send an exit and then an entry, or send the opposite entry and let the replace-the-position behaviour do the flip.

Questions people ask

Do I need to install anything or keep my computer on?

No. The alert goes from TradingView to Shifu to Tradovate in the cloud. Nothing runs on your computer, and brackets and trailing stops rest at the broker rather than in an app on your desk.

Does this work with a prop-firm evaluation or funded account on Tradovate?

Yes. Most prop-firm accounts, funded ones included, run on Tradovate’s Simulated environment — pick Simulated when you connect. Whether automation is allowed on your account is your firm’s rule to check; Shifu forwards your alerts and does not enforce a firm’s rules for you.

Is my Tradovate password stored by Shifu?

No. You sign in on Tradovate’s own site and approve Shifu there, so your password is never typed into Shifu.

Which contracts can the alert name?

ES, MES, NQ, MNQ, RTY, M2K, YM, MYM, CL, MCL, NG, GC, MGC, SI, ZB, ZN, ZF, ZT, 6E, 6J, 6B, and the CME crypto futures BTC, MBT, ETH, MET, SOL, MSL, XRP and MXP. Use the continuous form (MNQ1!) and Shifu resolves the front month for you at rollover.

The alert fired but no order appeared. Where do I look?

On the Alerts page in Shifu. If the alert is listed, the reason it stopped is written beside it. If it is not listed, TradingView never delivered it — check the webhook URL in the alert and the alert’s status in TradingView’s alert log.
